Default 457 visa - increased baggage allowance

Emirates have told our travel agent that we don't qualify for the increased baggage allowance because we're only going on a 457 visa. Is this the standard?

We were already struggling with a 40kg target.

the 457 isn't considered a "migrant" visa

We weren't allowed any extra allowance either on that visa, we flew with Singapore Airlines. When we looked into it at the time (last year) we found it was the same for other airlines too.

Very unfair! People coming over on long stays should be entitled to the extra allowance!

As far as I can see from their website and have been told by the agent the limits are : 40kg for first class passengers, 30kg for business and only 20kg for economy!

the lesson here is don't fly with emirates.

We were booking to fly with emirates on a 136 skilled visa and were planning a 3 day stop over in Dubai. They informed us we could not have the 40kg as we were not flying direct so we are flying via the USA with Quantas/BA and stopping in NY and LA with a 64kg allowance.

Thanks everyone.

Will try to book my own (and kids) flights with more generous airline.
