We've been told by the people sorting out our
sponsored visa that my husband and I don't need
medicals only an x-ray, but bothe girls (11 & 8) will
need medicals as they are going into the school system.

This seemed a bit strange to us and we just wondered
if any one who has been granted a 457 temp visa can confirm
this. If this is the case then we must be in as I don't think the
girls have anything wrong with them to preclude us coming.

There is conflicting infomation on the immi / dimia website as I had / have the same question. I think the interpretation is that people entering a classroom environment need a medical however I think this means as teacher / trainee etc; not student if student is under 15 years of age.

My infos just gone off to Sydney so I'll let you know if any probs (x rays/form 160s for myself and wife, nothing for boys both under 8). Thats all my employment sponsor said was required so we shall see.

Hi Karen;
we received our 457 back in January and fly out Wednesday.
It does seem strange but it is correct, you and hubby only need chest x-rays but children, I think below the age of 15, need medical and chest x-ray?
If you subsequently apply for residency, that's when you have your medicals ... don't know why but that's what our immigration specialist told us and .. hurrah, we got our 457.
The medical reports and x-rays must be done by selected doctors/radiologists from the list that DIMIA provide.

Hi Karen

My partner and I are going to Oz on 25th May , on a 457 visa, we only had to have chest xrays as you were told, but decided to have the HIV and Hepatitus checks also because we plan on applying for residency (you need these if you want residency) we got the all clear, if yiou plan on residency best to have them here.
