Re: 12 weeks for shipping???
We used AngloPacific. They were excellent. Our stuff was delayed by about a week due to a hurricane somewhere or other and then at customs in Perth for for about 2 weeks due to backlog. The only thing that was broken was a biscuit barrel and a glass door from a record cabinet, neither of which we were too bothered about. Plus, we also cleared customs without any grief or charges. Mind you, they did go through my hubbies tool boxes with a fine tooth comb, but other than that, no worries. I think it took the shipment about 9 or 10 weeks, all told, from pick up (at end of Feb) to delivery (in mid May).

It also depends on what removal company you use. We used Crown because it meant we only had to deal with one company all the way through.
Crown are more expensive. But if you want your stuff quickly ... Gina Not worth the extra for a "quick trip" and their delivery estimate was about the same as everyone else, 8-12 weeks. Pickfords seem to have a bad reputation. See elsewhere on here. |

Anyone used Doree Bonner? I appreciate this is probably a question directed to the Scots amongst us than anyone else. |

Re: 12 weeks for shipping???
doree bonner were good with me and they provide insurance too although I used letton percival, when I get my stuff i will let you know what state it is in. Doree bonner have several bases I used the ones from Dartford
I bargained with them as they gave me a higher quote than excess baggage and they gave me the same price with no delivery charge for the boxes so I was happy I had a shared container. |
Re: 12 weeks for shipping???
Spoke to Whites yesterdays, after Gina's advice (thank you). They use Maersk containers, the ship Takes 39 days but stops at rotterdam, singpore and somewhere else, the direct ship cost 500 gbp more and is 6 days quicker, they also said to allow 1 wk uk customs, 2 weeks Australia customs, although this has been a litltle slower at the moment so allow 60 - 75 days...Gina still need to look into insurance, think will go with you recommendation anyway.....guess its fingers crossed. On a different matter, we are shipping a little bike (indoor one) for a toddler, it is battery operated so it drive round house about 2 miles per hr. PSS said it is a motorised vehicle and would need a special form filling in an exemption certificate and 50 dollar payment to customs, prior to leaving, Whites say no its a kids toy, not a prob, anyoe come across this before???

Re: 12 weeks for shipping???
Cheers about the feedback on Doree Bonner.
We've been a little bit lucky in that the buyers of the house wanted most of our furniture, so we're not taking a whole house with us! For the stuff we are taking, the 2 quotes we settled upon were £4 difference to each other. DB came in lower at £2340. This doesn't include 3% insurance on the value of the goods and was based on 440 cu ft Does this sound reasonable? I'm not so sure when i read about 20' containers being in the mid £3k's Why did you use Letton Percival asher as opposed to the shipping agent if you don't mind me asking? |

Letton Percival will charge about 1.6% of value for insurance rather than the usual 3% that removals companies charge, so you'll save a bit using them. Worthwhile comparing policies tho, just to make sure what you are paying for is comparable. |
Re: 12 weeks for shipping???
Thanks BATS666, useful info. I'll give Letton Percival a call. No harm in asking.
I'd sort of back calculated our 440 cu ft basing a 10ft container priced at around £3.5k and it didn't look that great a value for our volume but not sure if the £3.5k 10ft is a pack and wrap and deliver of the goods as well. Och hang, what does it matter? There's me getting' bothered about it all again :sneaky: I'll phone Letton Percival and sort out the insurance side of things. Thanks again. |

£3,600 for a 20fter is for a max of 1,000 cu ft. You'll be sharing a container with only 440 cu ft. I think anything over about 650 cu ft means you'll get sole use of the 20 fter.

I think you will find someone somewhere along the line has had a bad experience with all of the shipping companies, they can't all be perfect. John |
