Default 100 points of ID NSW

We are moving out in Jan 2014 on a 457. We are hoping to go out in Aug for a visit (6months prior to move) to find a property. The reason for this is so we can find somewhere to rent before we eventually make the move, to get an address to apply for schools ( and also we are going out again in Oct) for Couple of weeks, so handy to have somewhere to stay)
As we won't yet be living in Sydney, what can we use for our 100 points check with the estate agents?

Get a statement from UK bank that you paybills on time and don't go in the red
If you have a landlord get a reference from them.

Birth certificates and passports count

I believe the 100 point identification check rules are for anti fraud and anti money laundering purposes. I don't think there is a requirement that the evidence of identity include something with an Australian address. Documents with an address are worth more points than those without an address. But it should only make the difference between providing two and providing three pieces of id. So a UK passport, UK driving licence and a credit card (all in the same name!) ought to get you over the line. If you want to be certain, ask the agents before setting out. Most seem to be contactable via their websites these days.

If you have friends/relatives/employers in NSW, ask them to write you a personal reference letter.

Australians still have a very provincial mindset, so anything local/Aussie are looked upon more favourably.

You are going six months in advance to find a rental?

I really wouldn't worry about the 100 points, when we were looking around after we first arrived, most agents told us they do not count points for new migrants. Just have some ID, proof of earnings or savings etc and it will be fine.

Good point actually - many 457s are not granted until shortly before you start work, so is the OP coming out on a tourist visa initially? That might put agents off, don't you think - especially if the property will then be sitting empty for 6 months before they return to start work?

Thanks for or comments, yes OP starts contract in July and will be working there on and off before we eventually move over as whole family. We are looking to find a property in Aug and hopefully start agreement in Sept/oct dependent on availability of lease so the property will only be empty for a few weeks before we are back out there in Oct...then OP is out there until mid Nov, so then again only a few weeks after that will it be empty.... All in all it will only be rented for max 4 months before we make the big 'splash'!
