A$400 house
Ive been looking on the real estate sites we would like to buy a house in an ok area of Brisbane for this much and not have a mortgage or much of one. Is this possible or would houses this price be in terrible locations? or poor condition?

I wouldnt want half an acre. Just more room for spiders in my book! OH would like 4 bedrooms but I think most of the time 4th room wouldnt be used as we just have 2 kids (unless hes secretly hankering for another!!!).

A friend of mine have bought a 4 bedroomed house with a pool in Redcliffe for just under 400K- I haven't been there but they love the area and local school and I've seen photos which look great.

The prices vary depending how close you are to the City, not just whether it is a good area or not. You first have to look at where you need to be in terms of jobs, schools etc. Then what your preference is for urban/suburban/rural, Queenslander/brick/older/modern, size of block. But certainly $400k would get a nice house in a lot of places.
