Boiling frogs indeed.

Before we left RSA in 2004 there was a program on Carte Blanche about farming land purchased. They had bought a farm from a reluctant seller, broke it up and let several families of farm hands take control. It was a milk producing farm. Within a year the milk output had reduced to about 25%. When they asked the goverment rep what he thought about this, he said they were happy because they now had to pay less subsidy. The numbers are a bit fuzzy but they were actually paying more per litre in subsidy, but on a much smaller outputl. It was pointed out to the clown they were interviewing but he remained steadfast that this was better. The farmers said they needed tractors and farming equipment but could not raise the finance. Then there is the mayor of PTA who has a council car for his wife. She was caught speeding a few times but the council pay her fuel and tickets. The mayor just refused to comment.
After seeing these things I knew we had no choice but to leave.
