Actually I am no ANC supporter so follow your own advice but then again, someone like you ... YAWN you are a waste of effort.
Oh and talking about constitutions .... SA constitution is widely regarded as the best in the world !! Hmmmmm amazing that, especially when the US constitution when drafted treated all men a sequal.... as long as you were white Anglo Saxon !!!!!!!!! Great model that one !!!!!

DOUBLE YAWN!

Izibear....I suggest neither of us waste our breath. lenandsons obviously knows far more than anyone else on the subject and isn't interested in an intelligent debate.

Have you ever been on the Rainbow Nation forum? I've had a look there a few times as I was hoping there would be the same friendly atmosphere as there is on the British boards. Unfortunately, lenandsons sounds EXACTLY like a lot of the posters on the Rainbow Nation boards. Very defensive and antagonistic.

To the OP.....if you're still reading this rather unfortunate thread. All the best on whatever you decide. Those of us who are spreading 'doom and gloom' are not doing it because we hate the country. Many thousands of Saffers who have left would dearly love to return to the country they were born and raised in, but after seeing what has happened in Zimbabwe and looking at SA at the moment you have to make as good a decision as you can without being psychic.

banjo, I don't hang around S.A. forums anymore, due to most who frequent them seemingly all share Oudsthoorn as a birthplace.

I see Namibia is doing the very same thing. It is same old, same old.

The new gubments come in, suck the country dry, and then after a decade or so, start the farm appropriations as a diversionary tactic to keep prying eyes away from their raiding the country's coffers.

Sad to see such great nations going to pot.

Banjo, yes, i have been keeping an eye on this thread, interesting. However, i do know what's going on here (with a few board members) as opposed to the matter in hand that i asked. So i can filter information that needs to be. It's not going to be a decision made lightly in any case. I will return to SA a few more times yet before anything concrete happens. Thanks again for all your (& others) replies.

I am sorry that your thread derailed somewhat.

I think you should read the thread posted by the Brit gal whose lived there for 14 months or so. She is probably in the best position to give you a heads up, more so than any of us.

Hey izibear
I see you're still carrying on with your intelligent k*k.
I'll report you to your mom and dad, and they'll spank you.

1. I live in a country that has FREE SPEECH written into its constitution. That doesn't have ARMED COPS standing around in my printing room ensuring that I won't release a story regarding CORRUPTION in government, as they did to the Mail and Guardian a few months ago, therefore I will say whatever the heck I want to, get it?

2. You don't know a single thing about any of us. The reasons why we left, if we were involved in the struggle at any level, or even what color we're are, you're making assumptions and thereby making yourself look like an ass.

3. South Africa, the wealthiest nation on the continent, is heading in exactly the same direction as the rest of the continent, due to people like you. Sheeple who are following their ANC masters. There are a few people in S.A. who have the balls to call a s spade, one of them being the current president's own BROTHER who has stated that the uncontrolled corruption at every level of government is a huge problem.

4. I wish Tambo, Mabeka, Masekela, etc..had been positive about S.A. when they were exiles. After all, they had no right to voice their opinions on South Africa seeing they didn't even live there. See how stupid that makes you sound?

5. Please go back to S.A., as you're the perfect ANC lemming and truly belong there with that attitude.

Stormer

Rather than throwing out the smattering of Afrikaans abuse-words you've managed to pick up, why don't you give Schmoo the benefit of your advice and experience, considering you're in South Africa. How long have you been there now? You must surely be capable of offering some sort of honest and balanced appraisal of both good and bad.

IMHO

Positives
Lifestyle, climate, oppurtunities for those willing to grab them and as Tony Leon the leader of the official oposition in SA said at the opening of parliament , SA is at the start of its golden age ( note not said by ANC ! ) schooling especially secondary school level, economic growth, the list goes on

Negatives
Crime rate still high in places, unemployemnt whilst it is coming down, it is still high at 27 % but that is 4% down in the last quarter, banking fairly expensive, anything that is imported can be expensive

But is I honestly take everything into considweration, for ME ( note izzy and banjo man ) the positives outweigh the negatives of the country. And I am looking forward to the final move back home in the next 12 months .

18th strongest economy blah blah blah....

The government sells the gold and keeps the money.....

27% unemployment? Almost a third of the countries eligible working age group not working.
50% of the population living below the poverty line?
Come on, stop kidding yourself, the place is getting better, but by the looks of things you have to be of a certain skin color to benefit from this. I'm just calling a spade a spade!

Look at somewhere like the uk that has only 6% unemployment??

big effing difference if you ask me

oh, and while I'm here...
Just like you are sick of people leaving, then bad mouthing the country for the reasons they left. We're sick of people like you who dont have the balls to make the move. Stop whining and go and enjoy that beautiful sunset, while worrying about if you'll get killed tomorrow or not!

I think you will know some of this is BS if you live there. You and Stormer are living in a dream along with Gandulph. if you are living the high life earning R20k to R50k a month it is a great country. You can buy anything and anybody you please. I lived all my life in RSA JHB apart from long business trips. We moved because
You pay simiar taxes as a first world country and get NO benefits
As a skilled person I was the wrong colour for a job.
I was a police reservist and still have visions of the violent crime I saw in a few years.
The employment rate includes vendors selling mielies,(corn) on the side of the road cell phone kits and soft drinks. Thes people earn way below what is legally payable by companies or even private citizens. We had a house maid who came once a week and we paid her pretty well. When she left for a better job we applauded her for initiative and employed another who wanted more than we could afford. A year later we discovered our domestic help became a prostitute and was beaten up.

Dream on and take a look at the AIDS figures for Southern Africa
