Appalling, truly appalling. I don't suppose he bothered about a condom either. I suppose she had to undergo emergency Aids tests and all the stress that goes with it.

These are the sort of details that the smug sun-chasing Europeans would rather not hear about. As far as they're concerned, the old SA was all bad, and the new SA is all good. Beyond that, they just don't want to know.

Had the emergency treatment and luckily no aids. But now a life messed up constant treatment to get her family life back on the straight and narrow. It was a lovely country I miss it but would never take my kids to it, its history and going downhill fast. happy out of it to be honest.

It will never happen to them because they will take sensible precautions.

I guess the half-a-million SOUTH AFRICAN men/women/babies/toddlers who are raped every year, and the 50 SOUTH AFRICANS who are murdered every day, just aren't being sensible.

Kind of like what happened to the daughter of my friend. Stupid woman for coming home from work a little early. Had she gone shopping instead she may well have avoided being violently attacked. In a dorpie too no less. Ye gads, some folk don't get it.

Yep, Sister in Laws immediate Neighbours were careless to stay at home and go to bed on Tuesday night. Did they really think living in a boomed off community was safe enough?
Anyway, am sure being tied up until 9am Weds Morning reminded them that being 70 plus and staying at Home is just asking for trouble.
Sure they'll be more aware next time and stay away from dangerous places

We had a 'home invasion' here in the US a few months ago - which shocked the entire country - was all over the media for a week, and which I'm sure you read / heard about.

Two broke in, raped and murdered the two girls/mom and tried to kill the husband/father.

Well, I heard about it, and thought...this happens every single day in S.A. to countless numbers of families in their homes.

Unfortunately, I have been desensitized to the extent that it didn't even register a twinge. Have had too many friends/work colleagues/acquaintances/family members experience violent burglaries, torture, hijackings, rape and murder for it to register when it comes to strangers.

amb, that is how it is with South Africans. We hear about these horrid things, but since it has been a way of life for decades in S.A., we don't feel it, unless it affects us directly or one of our loved ones.

Sad, isn't it?

We have just got an email from friends in KZN, telling us about the gruesome, senseless murder of the Wartburg Hof owners ,Siggie & Inge Schaedler. You can get more details on
http://blog.ecr.co.za/newswatch/?=706
& if you have Facebook it's on"Wartburger Hof Appreciation Group"
Having visited the Hof many times, and spent so many happy times there in their company, it seems a bit unreal and we are totally gutted. Nowhere is safe anymore, not even the smallest dorp.
I think that is one of the problems when people move to SA, it is just so difficult to comprehend the madness going on. It's only when you move away and start living a "normal" life that you appreciate how bad things really are. I nursed at Garden City Hospital in Jhb for many years, and thought we saw some terrible things back then in the 90's. Now, I worry about going back for even a couple of weeks holiday. There is not a day goes by when we don't worry about our friends who are still there, unable to leave because they have nowhere else to go. How did the madness ever get this bad?
All of us who've lived there know as well, that this is just the start and not the end.

Been reading about it this week val. What a tragedy.

Like we've said countless times. It isn't like most first-world large cities where there might be certain areas that you shouldn't wander into at night.

In SA, you are at risk at all times day or night. Be it at work, on the road, in your own burglar-barred, armed response, electrified fenced in home.

Those who live in the so-called secure complexes think that they're safe, but all that happens is that the security guards are threatened with death to their families, and turn a blind eye when the gangs go in.

It is NOT SAFE, no matter what those wanting to sell services to the expats say.

Spot on Val. South Africa has become sick to her very soul, and it will only get worse.

Sad to hear of your loss. Really is an absolute tragic senseless loss of life, and we all know it has to do with being a white face. This savagery just continues to go on and it will always be quietly endorsed by the reigning government.

Here’s a story of someone who recently returned to South Africa.

It just goes on & on & on.

What is going to happen in 2010 and is there anyone out there that really gives a sh1t.

These are the facts that bring home the reality of Home Coming Revolution whilst these savages will hang around and eat from your fridge whilst a dying father is tied to his daughter.

Spoke t o my mate in Fourways tonight and he tells me there was another huge armed raid on Monte Casino. Maybe the press will cover that up as it will stop the potential gamblers and hurt their business.

Tick tock, 2010 gets closer and the brutality carries on over there

The madness seems to be aimed at anybody and everybody, Teg. The whites may get targetted more, because they have (had?) more, but nobody is safe out there.

I remember reading the Sowetan in the 70's - 90's, and a quiet weekend in Soweto meant that only 30 murders had taken place, along with all the other acts of friendship of course.

I agree. It is often repeated here in the UK, in various different ways, that, somehow or other, the violence in SA is directed against whites by blacks who supposedly feel resentment at apartheid. This whole analysis is nonsense, but it is typical of the way that liberals in the West desperately try to rationalise barbarism.

Anyone, of whatever colour or creed, is a potential target of violent crime in South Africa. Nor is it a case that only those who have something of material value that is worth stealing are targets.

It is hard for cossetted Westerners to understand, but once you reach a certain level of barbarity, then rape, and killing, and torturing, are just fun. Period. You don't need any more reason than that.

Repeated countless times across the country every day. No one is safe. I used to go shopping at the PnP down the road from Moreleta Park. Know the area well. Very pretty.

Absolutely true. There are over 50 murders a day, mostly black folk. Same with rapes..

That is one thing that most can't understand. You get shot at in your own home, raped, tortured, and oftentimes, they won't take a thing. It is just a sport to them.

I think Tegs meant this particular case in the hotel.

[QUOTE=I think Tegs meant this particular case in the hotel.[/QUOTE] Correct RL. No-one is safe there and we all know that. Race related crime however is on the increase and far more palatable as it is seen as retaliation for past injustices whether they were subjected to those injustices or not.
