Stay at home Chartered Accountant
Hi,
I am a qualified chartered accountant (FCA) with the Irish institute. I have a degree, postgraduate diploma (British University) and a masters (Environmental Business Mgt from Australian uni). I have worked in professional practice for 10 years to senior management level (with Big 4 - audit) and then became a private university lecturer for 6 years (accounting and finance). The last 4+ years I have not worked as I moved a few times to different countries with my husband's job and I wanted time with my 2 kids.
My question is if we go to Australia (my husband has been offered a job with 457 visa), how easy would it be for me to get a job, something part time would be good and I wouldnt mind going back into the accounting profession or academic.
Has anyone done this after taking time out?
Thanks

If you plan to stay in Australia, it probably wouldn't hurt to do the tax/law study necessary to become an Australian CA as well as an Irish FCA. In the meantime, you can still access many ICAA member services at member rates due to the alliance between the major CA institutes.
One thing to be aware of is that some employers may be reluctant to offer you permanent employment while you are on a 457 visa. Even though you will have full work rights they may be put off by your temporary status.
