CPA Australia now recognised in Canada
CPA Australia have put in place mutual recognition agreements with both the CGA Canada (Certified General Accountants) and CMA Canada (Certified Management Accountants) institutes.

The agreements are also good news for Canadian CGAs and CMAs seeking to lvie and work in Australia.

ACCA has it in Canada already.
So does CIMA, except the deal is restrictive and not a great deal of benefit.
Neither have mutual recognition in Australia, although partial recognition is in place.

Which begs the question here as to why ACCA and CIMA are not doing anything to forge links with other professional bodies, particularly CPA Australia, ICAA and AICPA, taking into account that there is a great deal of migrants to Australia, Canada and USA from the UK. Its understandable if things don't work out with Chartered bodies as they feel that they have a 'reputaition' of some sort but what about CPA Australia or AICPA? Yes. ACCA might have a tie up with CGA Canada but just like in the US, everything in Canada is decided by the respective states and not by the central CGA body. Nobody as such is sure whether the individual states are prepared to accept the MRA between the two. People like me with the ACCA qualification had to take the back door by doing the US CPA exams to gain entry into the ICAA. Not that its my intention in any way to offend any ACCA or CIMA members here but from the looks of it, it seems like ACCA and CIMA might not be the preferred qualifications of many in the long run.

CIMA does have links with ICAA, but not full recognition.
AICPA is effectively one of the "Chartered" bodies.
