It says on the CPA website that applications take around 4 weeks to process.

If yours is taking longer, I'd give them a call.

Hey SunshineGirl, did you have to do exams in Australian tax and law to get mutual recognition? If not, what restrictions, if any do you have?

No, no exams at all. 'Mutual recognition' means, basically,that you have to prove that you're CIMA qualified (by examination), have no disciplinary issues and are paid up-to-date.

As for restrictions, I have to do 120 hours CPD over 3 years but I would expect that of a professional institute anyway and am actually looking forward to doing it. I am entitled to use the letters FCPA.

Hi Sunshinegirl

Inspired by your posts, I finally got round to filling in my MRA form 2 days ago.
Most of the recruitment consultants I have seen since I got here have said it should not be an issue but they have admitted that employers do feel more comfortable seeing CPA on a CV.
I did have one conversation with one particular agent about a week ago which was almost an argument as he knew nothing about the agreement. It's nice to know he won't be selling my skills anytime soon!

Just for my knowlegde, what does FCPA mean? Foreign CPA. I will most probably apply for CPA Australia as well through CGA Canada. The two associations also have a MRA. If employers make a difference between CPA and FCPA, does that mean that the latter is less marketable in Australia.

FCPA = Fellow CPA

Similar to Fellowship of CGA, although more widely available:
