Oil prices are dropping because growth in the world economy is dropping. Latest forecasts show significantly lower growth, especially in China.

Combined with increased supply from shale deposits and the tar sands of Canada, increased fuel efficiency of cars in the US and around the world reducing demand, and the rise in the value of the dollar which means producers will accept fewer of them for their oil. All in all a perfect storm for the price of oil.

Price of gas goes up, the economy suffers.
Price of gas goes down, the economy suffers.

$2.92 now at the 7/Eleven by work. There is a petrol station just out of town near where I live though that is still at $3.35. Weird.

We've got one like that, still at $3.19, and now 34ยข more than any other station in the area. I guess the owner can't get his head around selling gas, that he bought several weeks ago, for barely more than he paid for it, or even at a loss. Only an idiot would buy gas from there at the moment though.

It's not even like this one is the only gas station in a given radius either, there are at least another four within a mile, all cheaper. Though it is on the main road, and it is the only one on that particular road for a few miles, so perhaps the owner is banking on out-of-towners filling up on the way through thinking they have no other options.

There was one farther down the same road on Tuesday that had it at $3.43. That's 87 octane as well, not even premium

There's a place like that down the street from me, about 20-50c more expensive than the place across the street, but he's always busy...I think people go in for the cheapo ciggies, lottery or the dollar coffee

Me too! . ...... The local BP that I was using for most of the summer is now the cheapest of any of the BPs again, the ones that I pass at least once a week. That said I am likely to pass the one in the next town over the weekend and I'll be checking gasbuddy.com before I fill up locally.
