Actually Sheffield can be the steel capital of the world because Pittsburgh must be the steel capital of the biggest universe in the world.

Sheffield steel was renowned world wide. It was heavily bombed during the world wars because it was the major supplier of ammunitions...my grandfather's company made the best ammunitons during the war in the world.

Eventually there was so much solder on the prongs holding the tiny stones in that you can now see more solder than stone. Last year I asked her if she would like a new one as I can afford a (slightly!) better one now, maybe a single stone that's big enough to see anyway. She said even as it is, the ring means more to her than any other ever could and she didn't want another one.

So I used the money to buy a cutting torch instead.
I still have mine...I would never replace it...had to have a new wedding ring.......I got a silver Native American ring with Buffalo around it....it cost around $30....I love it...

OK, you asked!

The last thing I used it for was to cut out a 5"x5"x1/4" thick steel plate to weld a trailer tongue jack mount to so that (after I drilled holes in the 4 corners of the plate) the whole assembly could be bolted

Oh, wait a second, I'll take a pic.

I used the torch to cut the square piece out of a bigger sheet of steel, then I drilled the holes and welded the tube to it. The square piece will be bolted to a trailer tongue and the jack will mount on the tube with a pin. The tube was supposed to be welded directly to the trailer per the instructions but my neighbor wanted it to be removeable. So now the plate can be unbolted and the whole assembly removed.

Glad you asked, I bet!

I had Sheffield cutlery when I got married.
My OH is a sheet metal worker...it's a long story. He wanted to be a guitarist and his mother wasn't in agreement and so she insisted he did an apprenticeship instead. He ended up doing sheet metal work and playing the guitar in local bands in the evenings.

Nottingham was famous for the worlds best lace... and Robin Hood, the worlds best person who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.
