That's true Lorna but their money is very well liked here in Rome though - especially as they seem to be quite easy to separate from large amounts of it compared with the Brits! They love the Japanese even more for exactly the same reason

Well that was a thoroughly entertaining read! I wonder if he/she'll come back. Probably won't be too fussed with me as I'm Scottish and am pretty positive and happy to be living in the US and am embracing the culture. Don't want to encourage him/her though, wouldn't be a good idea would it?

How in the name of shite did I manage to miss this entire thread yesterday?
Bollocks, I hope he/she/it comes back for another go.

Damn my failure to recheck for new threads at the end of the day. That opener was so wonderfully passive aggressive and dripping with irony I am genuinely mad at myself for missing out

I do love and miss the satirical humour in which we Brits engage.
And we can laugh at ourselves...
Good job all...and for Sultan's sake I hope he/she makes another appearance.

Re: When in Rome...
Have had a brilliant time, had egg and chips at several folkloric cafés in Cromer, mooched around the countryside looking at mediaeval churches and so on. I lined up a few really good estate agent tours, then summoned my wife over here but the voice of reason found something wrong with all my offerings, so no pied a terre yet. Then she flew back to the Pacific North West .. Er sorry, I mean New York. Anyway I just started a little thread in MBTTUK but it didn't see much action yet.
In London now, staying at my favorite hotel, the one where we had a mouse in the room last time. This time I insisted on third floor rather than basement ...

yep, like Mike said earlier - some people are only liked for their tourist money. The Americans on the Vicenza military base are heavily disliked.
