I now suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease as a result of long term NSAID drugs such as Ibuprofen. I came very close to total kidney failure and dialysis. No symptoms - just picked up from a routine blood test. Luckily it is now under control.

I had been taking Ibuprofen for severe back pain and problems. I took it for quite an extended time but within prescribed dosage. I then started having problems when eating initially hicupping after eating which progressively got worse. It then got to point where I could not swallow. I went to the doctor and was sent straight for hospital appointment to have camera down to check the stomach. They thought I may have oesophagus cancer. Luckily I was in time my whole oesophagus was nearly closed with scarring caused by stomach acid spilling out from the stomach. They said to stop using ibuprofen as it can cause this and other issues. I stopped had a further camera check a few months later and difference was amazing. They prescribed omeprazol which I have taken since for the stomach issues. Touch wood been fine since and I haven't touched ibuprofen since.

In Spain, they seem to prescribe Omezaprole whenever you're taking anything! Also most of the pills here are coated to help. Sadly all drugs are a necessary evil and have common side effects. What makes Nolotil different from other painkillers is that one of those side effects can kill you.

Interesting! Regarding 1g paracetamol tablets, they are still available OTC here in France. In fact pharmacists often suggest 1g boxes rather than 500mg. Synically I guess it makes better business sense.
