Pass ETL then licence?
#16
Hi there,
In addition to Steve O's reply, the confusion lies with the differing requirements for gap training from State to State. Most States require 'on the job' gap training of anywhere from 3 months to a year. Luckily, for you, WA only require the 2 week ETL course and upon successful completion your OH can apply for the full licence.
I'm in Queensland and need to do at least 3 months on the job training alongside study to get my licence. In NSW, ACT , NT and Victoria I believe you have to do a full year on the job training.

Hi Steve,
I will be once I've found a job. Spoke to Chris at QET and he said I should find a job first and then get back into contact with him. Have only just started looking for work as it's all been a bit hectic setting ourselves up.

We're living in the western suburbs of Brisbane, Kenmore to be precise. Initially, we were looking at the northern suburbs but decided on Kenmore after exploring Brisbane and having had it suggested to us by quite a few friends or ours who live in neighbouring suburbs.

that's excellent news - thank you very much! Liking this forum, it's great to get some straight answers!
Just one other question - if we apply to Energy safety and supply a UK address does this cause problems? Not going over till end of the year so not in a massive rush.

Around Christmas time I spoke to Energysafe a few times and then TRA I have OSTR but have also applied for ARTC which they were taking awhile to assess, I dropped them a line and they told me I wont be assessed until I land in Australia and vertify it. (theres another thread about this).
If someone can actually come on this board as say how they did it and got OSTR without logbook gap training it can only be assumed that TRA ARTC certificate is still the way to gain A license.
I spoke to my mate last (been there fives years) week and a few of his mates that emigrated are working towards A license they have TA license at mo. They are going the ARTC way which takes about a month to assess when you prove u live there.
They said about 4-5 months complete time for the A license at the moment.

Can I ask - do you have the OSTR then? And secondly, can you let us know if when you complete this course that you will be granted a license or do you still need to the gap training?
Thanks for any information. It's just that when I think I'm clear about what we need to do someone says something completely different and I'm totally confused again! Ahhhh!
