Sorry folks, I wasn't meaning to upset you. I wanted to illustrate my point that de sexing is not solving the problem of these poor creatures.
Personally I finding it harrowing just seeing these poor unwanted creatures.

It must be partly to do with feeding by tourists during the season, which I suppose leads them to congregate in beach area.
Over the border in Karwar, there are strays but just not this problem. Only a handful seen near the beach. Some hang about the shops mainly 2-3 together but seem to co-exist with the shop keepers and get some food.
Others are at the fish market where people put their unwanted puppies for others to take in. Around the temples there is usually a small 'group' rather than pack. (All looking alike so must be interbreeding!).
There is no charity help. So I do not know why else there should be such a difference.
You are right that the tourists feed the dogs during the season and this is part of the problem. There is not enough of them being doctored so the numbers keep on growing. We see packs of dogs roaming over the fields near us and walking on the roads at night with all the dogs around can be scary. I used to ask for food to be wrapped to take home if we had a lot left (for us, not the dogs) but the smell attracts the dogs so I stopped doing that.

Have any of you contacted the IAR to report these dogs?
If these dogs are ripped up they will treat them, de sex them or put them down if they are suffering.

Yes
Reported it to the 2 snooty foreign females from IAR on a number of occasions when I saw them in Spitfire - even pointed out some of the dogs - dogs still there the following day, and the day after etc. My neighbours have also made several calls - no response - dogs still there !

That's why I question whether there are enough IAR people to really sort the dog problem
Maybe some IAR night patrols in the areas would be a good move?

Dr Joyce de Azavedo: Dog Bite in Goa

28 Nov: From Dr Joyce de Azavedo. It happened at around 5pm on Candolim beach … I saw a pack of 6 – 8 dogs running towards me … the lead dog sunk its teeth into my leg just below the shin drawing blood. I ran into the sea and luckily the dogs did not follow me into the water … the Candolim Health Centre started a course of rabies injections but did not give me rabies immune globulin as they said that this was only done if the dog was known to be rabid. Of course, in the case of a stray dog, there is no way of proving that it is not rabid …
Joyce was born in Kenya, went to University in Ireland and came to Canada in 1991…
more details..

like I said last week "Chef" was bitten by a dog, his leg was in a mess, am terrified of them. yesterday there were between 6 - 8 on Candolim Beach.

Please let us have their telephone number - but I bet the dogs would have disappeared by the time they got there. Surely they should be looking on the beaches for these packs.
