This year was weird in the UK. No real summer as such and very wet. I wonder what the winter will be like this year?

I was hoping that it would be warm in winter at Javea that is my only reason for going

Javea has it's own micro climate thanks to the presence of Montgo and the extending Cabo. This shelters us from the North wind, keeping the really cold air from infiltrating. We enjoy a lot of sunshine and the valley extending inland seems to trap quite a bit of heat within. As I said previously, I am able to wear my summer gear right into the deep winter months, but I am a bit immune to the cold. Don't get me wrong though, it can get cold here and I have seen the pix of Montgo and the beaches of Javea with snow on them. Last winter I don't recall any frost in Javea Port, pueblo or the Arenal, and I think the coldest mornings were in the upper single digits celsius. I live in an attic apt, 3rd and 4th floors, western exposure on one side and Eastern on the other, smack bang between the Port and the Pueblo. We do get a lot of wind up here, my biggest gripe, but once in a sheltered spot on the upper terrace with the sun beating down, it can be quite warm.

However, Spain is still an European country and pretty far North in the overall scheme of things. It can and does get cold. You would have to go South of Morocco to get anything approaching really warm in mid winter. AS others have said before me, it's a lot better than the UK in winter

That will do for me Firtreesix I just hope the campsite pulls out all the stops and gets back to normal . I emailed them but no answer yet but I suppose if they are flooded the electricity will be off.

Thanks Firtreesix

As an indicator the lowest temps here at my house last year were (in old money) just under 50 during the day. Its generally accepted that its a few degrees cooler up here where we are on a hill then it is down in the towns. We didnt have any frosts but we had some incredibly high winds.

Mine too. We face south overlooking Montgo, and seem to be in a wind tunnel. In fact I am amazed that the sapling trees have survived. The only bonus is that I never have to iron any clothes as the wind blows the creases out.

Is it my imagination or have we seen more wind than normal this year? In the time I have spent here, I don't recall it being this windy. Funnily, my friends back in Florida tell me that it has been windy there also. And then we have the ferocious winds fanning up some deadly fires out California way.

Could this be another side to the much touted global weather changes?

You're very welcome. I will have another look over there when I next get to that side of town. I'll try and remember to take a camera and post up some pix for ya. Probably drop you a PM when I do all that, OK.

I find it better to consume mass quantities of beverages of choice, that way the weight of all that liquid keeps one anchored down

Not sure whether this year has been windier - I'm only a part timer in Spain. I just know that the weather is nowhere near as predictable as you would expect for southern europe.

In relation to the original post, I have spent very warm days in Denia in January - 25 degrees in 2004 but know that it could be as cold as the UK, as the UK can be quite mild in winter now.
