I found the food better, especially the bread. One of the best chip shops near Christchurch was in Akaroa. But most were good. I did like their pies mind you. Mmmmmm.....pies. Small packets of crisps were awfull, but not the big bags for some reason. The wifey thinks it may be lack of salt etc for the kids? mother Earth apple pies, loved them. Why we can't get them here.

No. You can 'Home Kill' your animals or have someone come in and do it for you. Homekill meat isn't regulated and it shouldn't be sold or traded.

Those that are into hunting butcher their own deer and pigs.

We've been offered & accepted the odd leg of lamb.
I've some venison in the freezer right now.

I don't cry myself to sleep about it and miss it with my very heart and soul but I wouldn't mind some Cherry Coke now and again.

I will try the Budgens Bread asap , but currently on a diet, due to NZ food being so tasty! Agree with nearly everything you say about NZ food (at least)
Budgens bread is quite good, not as good as Vogels Sesame ! Bit expensive for bread 3$ + ?
The cheese is very good here and very cheap
