Yes, I think carer's allowance probably explains it, which they get for their daughter. She needed the help later in life when he was already of retirement age.

My husband's uncle has hardly ever worked in his life. He still has an acceptable place to live, unlimited medical treatment (he and his family have a lot of health issues), and goes on exotic...

It genuinely puzzles me. It seems fine on visits, neither of our families is at all well-off but they live comfortably, new graduates I know have all found jobs.

I think some people also do consider themselves just naturally superior by 'virtue' of being white and/or English-speaking.
