Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

exactly - for an industry in decline why piss off people for what could turn out to be a few extra quid in the coffers:rolleyes:

Smacks of closing the stable door after the horse has...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

Agree mate but that doesn't always happen either as some employers won't employ highly skilled people for fear they'll lose them once a better job comes along.

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

you're missing the point mate. Skilled perm migrants are not always able to secure a job in their skilled field - they already have the required qualifications as they required these to obtain the...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

And that's the point. Aus brings over skilled migrants but there aren't always jobs available in those roles so it's unreasonable to expect a visa holder to have worked in their skilled job when...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

That only works if people are guaranteed to be given a job in the role they are skilled at. When a lot of people come to Aus they are told they need Aus job experience and to do this they often have...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

yeh its an emotive subject and some people are taking it personally which is a shame.

Anyway mate let's hope it gets sorted and the visa is finally used for what it's intended and hopefully...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

457 posters who have been brought to Aus by their employers as highly skilled and those skills are not available in Aus - no one so far has denied this is not required nor have these jobs been taken...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

Agreed. Makes a mockery of skilled Perm visa requirements and employment within Aus:thumbdown:

No one has a problem with specialist skills being brought in where there is a genuine requirement -...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

Agree this is wrong:thumbdown: - I wonder why Aus thinks it's OK to do this to the very skilled people they require to bring in

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

but that's not the point being made here mate. Why should a 457 visa holder or their company pay extra for schooling when they already contribute in paying tax to cover it?

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

no one has said this is the only issue with a 457 visa:confused:

My point was in relation to the current discussion not the whole thread.

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

But the point being made is that 457 visa holders pay Aussie Tax so why shouldn't they receive free schooling for their kids?

Fair comment if they pay Aussie Tax I reckon.

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

I agree genuine 457 visa holders shouldn't be penalised. I also agree companies and recruitment firms need to get their act together and only employ genuine 457 skilled migrants who can't be sourced...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

If what you mean is that Aus needed your specific skills within Gas processing as there was no one immediately available in Aus, then that's a "true" 457 visa requirement as there is no one in Aus...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

Yep makes sense

On my part this was a question not a statement. Now that you've clarified that anyone in Aus on a 457 visa must pay Aus Tax I agree, this means 457 visa's support the...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

Correct. Agree 100%. Like I said it's great that companies are being monitored more to ensure the 457 is provided to the right people for the right reason although we're still a loooooong way off...

Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

whilst I get what you're saying, there are companies bringing in 457 visa holders when there ARE people in Aus capable of doing the same jobs. The way these visas are requested and allowed is a joke...
