We give our son an allowance for the same reason.

Kids out here still like their labelled brands like "ripcurl" or "Billabong" etc:rolleyes:

We find giving him an allowance means he shops...

Some really great points here;)

We can analyse until the cows come home but until you get here and live the *reality* you can't be 100% sure how it's going to pan out. Of course planning ahead...

Looks like a good summary of costs however what about annual dentist check-ups and do you also plan on having any pets as these would need vet fees too.
