I was amazed at the number of work colleagues who had no idea where Hungary is - despite our business having strong international connections & influences.

Don't forget many British are inclined to be very insular, "abroad" is just for weather, cheap booze etc!

You have mentioned ignorance & rightly so, sometimes I think a teensy weensy bit of jealousy comes into the equation too!

I think you've hit on one of the key issues here. We have found that so many are not interested in personal communication - it's facebook or nothing, a reflection of the age.
