It sounds to me like they are getting well acclimatised. A good sign that one dog is stopping to wait for the older.
DefCon 1 - normal state with healthy dogs I seem to recall.

Oh So True ! how often do you see people out with their new "must have" possession !!

I have seen dogs being kicked at, lashed with lead, dragged down the street, turned into gibbering wrecks....

sounds like the "kids" we used to have.
the border collie was Alpha Female, the dalmation/pointer cross bitch just did as she was told, the Norfolk Terrier dog just managed to keep up with the other...

Glad to hear she is starting to settle down.
Like us, they know that generally the route of least resistance is the easiest.
