True, IKEA, in the UK and Australia, seems to be a place that draws in loads of people to just go and have a look. One of the worst days of my life was a saturday afternoon spent in the Croydon IKEA....

Fair enough, I didn't think they were that great in the UK either (US a different matter). We went to a supermarket in KL the other day that was better than anything in Australia.

Not so. Costco is the 3rd largest retailer in the US and 9th in the world. The fact they only have 1 store here is immaterial, they can open as many stores as they like - that they have chosen not to...

A decent house in a nice area seems to be about 300k Euros - unless you want something really speccy or traditional where the sky is the limit. Size about similar to an Aussie 4x2 although gardens...

I found eating out in the UK to range from dire (Wethspoons) to really nice (gastro pub in Berkshire). Overall I found the standard to be not that great.

I've just returned from a few weeks in the UK. What I found:
Groceries - cheaper there
Durable goods - overall about the same
Petrol/diesel - cheaper here
Eating out - overall slightly cheaper...

It was a shithole when I went there in 1995, can't imagine what it's like now. It was a fun place though.
