Random stuff - the anything else thread

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
For anyone interested, today's ManU-Spurs cup semi final isn't only on the subscription Sportsnet World, it's on the main Fox channel too.
I had been expecting to stream from iPlayer, which I may still do, depending who's commentating for Fox and what version of English is used.

Man United-Spurs FA Cup semifinal could be preempted by your FOX network - World Soccer Talk
My local (actually Detroit...hmmm not too local when I'm in Ottawa) Fox station is still showing that the FA Cup will be on and not the funeral of Barbara Bush.
In terms of commentators, I'm not a big fan of Ian Wright...he adds little and I find his poor grammar very distracting. I assume Ian Wright will be on the BBC Feed in some form of another.

Vermont is the ultimate. Probably my favourite state where Subarus are basically 7 times more popular there than the average. I find in the US I enjoy the outdoors more than the big cities and suburban areas and Vermont, NH, Maine, Oregon, Washington etc are amongst my favourites.

My old department used to deal with these things, visiting would-be-recipients approaching their 100th birthday to see if they actually wanted one, among other things, and then checking still alive later. It's a bit strange phoning to see if someone is still with us before giving the go ahead.
But I understand it's changed a bit now and it actually has to be requested.
I suppose someone could still do it though. Perhaps she'd prefer a gorillagram.

My great grandmother was 108 when she died so she got a few of them. I don’t remember the queen dropping in to check she was still alive before sending the telegrams. She would have been in her 50s then so quite able bodied enough to pop in. Not too far down the road from Windsor too so she would have been home again for supper!!

"It's not as if the Queen's coming to tea" was what I used to say when my mum wanted excessive tidying up done.
