We went quite a lot around then too. Probably saw you! Spooky! I remember watching the Transatlantic Trophy with Randy Mamola in particular and all the other big names as well as a few national and clubmans races. I have a great photo somewhere of Jock Stein and passenger hanging off their sidecar as it went upside as it came towards us.

I think Rolf grew up on the Swan River. Went on a wine cruise earlier this year and the guides kept referring to him. I'll check again when I try the cruise again a few weeks.

Yes he's known as the Boy from Bassendean. Quite right!

Drive-ins!!!!!!!!
Oh wow they were good value. Used to get a cartoony thing and two movies. Mum and dad used to lay the back seat down and make us lie really really still under a blanket so they didn't have to pay for us. Lying in the back of the car (Station wagon aka Estate) with pillows and blankets. All jumping around in the warmth of summer evenings.
Obviously this was in Oz.

Guys
Got so nostalgic reading this thread yesterday that I flicked to VH1 Classics last night just to wallow in it again! What about the music?:
The Police
The Jam
The Beat (that little guy with wobbly legs always made me laugh)
The great Madness (baggy trousers!)
Blondie (.....I'll be back in a min - just off to the loo!)
Pretenders
Bad Manners (lip up fatty, ah lip up fatty, fatty reggae!!)
then of course onto my era with:
Depeche Mode (saw them twice - once in 1981 and again in 1994)
The Human League
Yazoo (saw them in 82 - Alison Moyet was just out of this world)
Tears for Fears (saw in 82)
Ultravox (oooooooo Vienna! - saw in 86)
China Crisis (going a bit deep here)
Soft Cell (no comment)
Echo and the Bunnymen
The Cure
Spandau Ballet
Wham! (Wham bam....I am...a man....job or nooo job......)
Duran Duran (still good)
ABC (shoot that poison arrow to my heeaaart!, shoot that poison arrow..)
god, I used to have all the clobber too - pleated trousers with 25 pleats in, Cavalry shirts, pointed shoes and a flick haircut
Then what about all the NAFF stuff
Bros
Dollar
Captain bloody sensible
Joe Dolce (kept Vienna off the No 1 slot!)
Kool and the Gang
Hot Chocolate (debateable if Naff or not)
Could go on and on but how about you lot......

Re: Are we lucky to be alive........?!
Craig,
Wow this lot takes me back!! I used to love all the groups you mention in the second list!
Ive just been out and when I got in the car I turned on the radio Tpau were playing 'China in Your Hand'. It was no1 in 1987. I loved that group (at the time!) and I thought I would add it to the list. I remember I used to have big, curly hair (again at the time!) like the the lead singer, Carol Decker!!!
Going back.......back.......back a bit more I used to love Wham!! Had the t-shirt too! Flippen heck your second list I cant beleive it I remember them all!! China Crisis I know the name but what did they sing? Alison Moyet in Yazoo had a fantastic voice. Ultravox, wow I thought Midge Ure was gorgeus!! Wow Duran Duran, my fav was John Taylor!!! Echo and the Bunnymen did they sing Echoe Beach?? The song is in my head now! (Echoe beach, far-away-in-time, echoe beach faraway-in time........) I liked that one!
ABC had a fantastic album, all the songs were brill!
Who remembers Adam and the Ants??!!!!!!! OMG I liked them as well! Prince Charmin!! LOL Stand and Deliver!!! LOL!!
I didnt get many clothes as a teenager (had my sisters hand-me-downs ) but I can remember skin tight jeans (I was stick-thin back then anyway) my hair was like the girls who sang in Human League, got my sister to cut it for me!! No she isnt/wasnt a hairdresser so you can imagine that!! And I thought I looked fantastic!!
Thanks for the memories!!!
Cheeky
PS BTW (Desperately trying to redeem myself!!) The music I like at the mo.....fav is Keene, also like Dido, Natasha Bedingfield, the Darkness, Stereophonics and of course Robbie Williams!! I hope my taste in music has improved with age! Crowded House were brill too (still listen to their stuff) but are no longer around....
And I have enough money to buy my own clothes now and my hairdresser is one of my bestest friends! (no not my sister!!)

Have been to a club up Birmingham recently that is all 80's - everybody danced all night (around their handbags, of course). It was great, we would have looked mental to most people screaming "OMG remember this - gotta dance" but everybody was the same.
