Mbps
I suppose it will be if downloading heaps or using as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Is the difference between 155 Mbps and 85 Mbps really that noticeable?
Its probably all the bloat ware and viruses you have on that Apple
Quite enjoying the Note 4 over what I had in the Galaxy 3. One nice little discovery is the quick charge feature. I can go from 3% to 100% in about 25 minutes. Mind you it takes over a day for the battery to go flat even with heavy internet usage. That's without the power saving mode.

Yeah he loves the sound of his own voice but he does raise an interesting question. "Would you buy it if it had a Microsoft or Android logo on it?"

No, I wouldn't. The lack of USB ports is a killer. Function over form always has to come first for me.
The Apple approach seems to be to channel you intro buying the bespoke adapter, as it looks like you have to charge it through the single port as well.

The interesting rumour doing the rounds is the MS Surface Pro 4 might have 12 and 14 inch options at 4K resolution. You might remember I suggested before there is a sweet spot for these as A4 paper replacements at that spec. Certainly makes more sense from a viewer perspective than 4K 60inch TVs.

Personally I'm not interested in MS 'orrible attempt at a tablet OS - but if it pushes the rest (particularly Android) into A4K displays with addon keyboards - I'm all for it.

You want to know?
Basically you are usually sitting 2m back from the telly (well roughly, can be less in UK sized homes). At that distance the dot pitch of 0.3459mm (4K 60inch TV) is 0.01 degrees, or 36 seconds of arc. However your general purpose eye is typically considered to have a resolving power of 60 seconds of arc.
In other words, you can't actually see the individual pixels - they blur out. In fact 1080p is a much better match (which it probably why it got chosen).
However a 14" screen at 30 cm = 0.0807mm dot pitch, but 55 arc seconds.
In other words, you'll see most of the benefit of the extra resolution AND it can deliver a 300dpi A4 page of content = laser printout quality.

That said there is some debate over some of the upscaling algos and whether they improve the quality or not
..... and according to his graph, 4K tv's are worth it for your 2m back from the telly on a 65"

Re: All the Gear
Yep True. Though if you do sit side by side in Harvey Norman with a Samsung 1080p and a Samsung 4K and they have Foxtel playing through it, and not the promo 4k stuff, the 4K's actually look a little better for whatever that algo is doing. Probably contrast enhancements, antialising, etc.
Or a big enough telly. Hollywood is shooting everything in 4k now. It's only a matter of time. If you upgrade your TV every 5 years, it might be worth it. Then again 8K is around the corner.

This is similar argument to the digital quantisation on CDs. There's very little point in ripping them at anything above 256k because the human ear simply can't hear the difference, despite what the audiophiles would like to have you believe.

So actually getting 4K content, that's not just scanned prints, is going to mean redoing loads of work.
Long term thinking.
Plus 4K BluRay doesn't turn up till end of this year, and will require HDCP 2.2, which many 4K TVs don't have.
I'd not be buying 4K this year, or next.

Re: All the Gear
What to hear something funny? Although they have been doing post on films at 4K for ages, up until relatively recently they tended to throw away all that negative scanned, colour corrected, 4K data after they had done the work and output to film.

Let's be honest, we're not going to be on 1080p forever.
But many do have HDCP 2.2. Sure if you buy a cheapy 4K or a 2013 model you may lack it, but why would you go cheap on a 4K or of bought one back in 2013.
