Hi Ian,
Can you tell me if you are employed or self-employed?
Is your wage enough to live on, or do you need 2 incomes?
Do you have any kids to support too?
Thanks for any more info.

Hourly rates can differ...know most are on $25/30 per hour and heard talk of some on up to $40 per hour. All say the same though...If you can make up to $1500.00 in a week you are doing well.
Hope this answers a few questions for some.

Hi Donna,
Great thread!
I have some questions...
Approx. how much is the tax rate?
To anyone living in Perth, would a chippie earning about 25/hr be enough to support two adults? or a family of three?
Thanks for any info.

Although, if you would rather not disclose all your personal details, just popdown what you are happy with people knowing, I'm sure it would be a help.

In my opinion, Nurses, and I'm surrounded by them, as my wife socialises mostly with Nurses. Should expect to earn a minimum of circa 60,000 AUD flat rate, rotating shifts etc. Most would do a little bit of overtime, which should push the wage to between 66,000 to 75,000 per annum
Do not forget the Salary Sacrificing component for Government Hospitals. Which adds 100,'s to the take home fortnightly pay.

Hi,
I'm not too sure about joiners as my OH is an Electrician, but yes we have had a bit of a time of it. Although we are quite lucky that I knew all this before we came so made sure we had enough cash to last at least a year.
He has had t apply to the TRA for an Australian Recognised Trades Certificate (ARTC) then enrol in a course to pass the wiring rules exam. Once he's done that we can then apply for a full licence.
I'm not sure of the process for Joiners, so what you should do is contact the TRA and they will tell you what you need to do once you get here, based on where you are going. The rules vary from state to state, so far South Australia seems to be the easiest.
You can contact the TRA by visiting this webpage
It's not as bad as it sounds, providing you are prepared for it

When I contacted the TRA by email, all they did was give me a standard reply saying visit their website (which of course I already had read word for word or I wouldn't be asking them!).
I emailed a reply back again and I got the same standard email back. Do they take phone calls?

What is your profession and where are you going? I'll see if I can help
