It depends where you go.
Here in the South East there was a recent ad for a legal secretary, the applicant had to have secretarial experience as well as actual legal experience and the salary was only £13,000 p.a. ! :scared:
BUT if you're in London you would get much more.
The best thing to do is have a look at one of the job websites, like Fish4, that will give you a better idea.
Hope this helps...

Thank you for your reply.
That is low, sheesh!
I did a search on the web. and saw some higher paying jobs, i think that one was a one off low salary. I hope that was after tax. :scared:

I have seen jobs advertised from £8000 per annum and jobs advertised usually are before tax is taken.

As I said it does depend where in the country you are - if you're looking to work in London generally the salaries are more, but £13,000 is about the norm here in Kent, and bear in mind that the cost of living in the South East means you dont have much (if anything!) left once you've paid your bills! :scared:
Sorry if this is not the news you want to here, but better to be prepared for the worst!
You might want to do a search for local newspapers in the area you're moving to, most of them have the jobs section on the internet so that will give you a good "feel".
Good luck!

Just wanted to add that I am in the secretarial field myself so I know what the salaries are and unfortunately the salaries advertised are always before tax and other deductions...

Thank you all and sheesh that's quite low.
Will be hard to move from my secretarial job here which is paying 1,600 a month, not bragging or anything but at least salaries are good in HK.
Thanks for your replies and i have some serious thinking to do.

If you worked in London as a PA/Secretary you can expect to earn up to £30k maybe even more depending on which kind of company you work for. If you are bi-lingual (and i assume you are
) and obtained a PA job with a Japanese/British company you could command a salary in the region of £30k upwards with excellent secretarial/PA/Communication/Organisational skills.
Of course, you would either then have to live in London or be prepared to commute to London from a cheaper area in a "commuter belt". If you've ever experienced the London transport system then you'll know it's not a lot of fun.
Don't even consider working outside London unless you wish to earn a salarly less than £15k.
It sounds like you already earn a good salary and have good prospects in HK if you can earn that much - so why would you want to come to UK. Most of us are trying to get out for a better standard of living!
Seriously though, if you are a single person and have good skills then you can live the high life in London

Hi Lostris
Yes, that's what I've been trying to say, London is one thing and rest of UK another....
But HK has never said where they are going.......!
