My wife was doing a hairdressing course in 91(nvq3 i think)but unfortunately didn't finish due to our first child coming along, missed the last couple of months. Then worked in hairdressers for a couple of years but for last 12 years or so has been more or less self employed. But only charges the cost of materials + tip.So there is no accountant or anything. What would be the best way to meet the criteria for a visa,or would we be able to pass the TRA with this work experience.Sorry for questions but spent a lot of time and effort on another route (RRV) ,so not into the searching mode yet.
Thanks

Hi Taupo Adventurers or anyone else out there!!
I too am looking to migrate to New Zealand in the near future. I have done 3 years at college with part time salon work and got my NVQ3. We are probably going with my husband's qualifications as he has the most points with his work experience.
Do you know whether I would still get the added points just with my NVQ3 as I don't think they will count my work experience as it is only part time and the NZQA counts 30hours a week towrds a years experience.
Are you travelling with children? Mine are 19,17 and 8! So we are going to have to prove dependancy for the older ones which shouldn't be too hard as I can't ever see them not being dependant on us
!
My brother is already in Auckland with his family but only for the last year and we are going out to see them at Christmas for a month. Hope to get a good feel for the place and get the kids all enthusiastic for a new Kiwi lifestyle.
Any info would be much appreciated concerning the hairdressing qualifications assessment procedure for NZ.
Cheers
Annie

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
Do you know whether they will give me the full amount of points for my NVQ3 with only a years post qualifying experience. I know that for Oz you need between 5-6 years of experience, which includes the time you were at college, and the work experience needs to be at least 20 hours a week. However looking at the NZ sites it seems you get the points for just getting the qualification! You then get added points for any work experience that relates to that qualification! Is this correct?
I suppose when we go at Xmas I can suss out jobs etc. I want to do a bit of travelling during our stay but not too much. Made that mistake when we visited Oz and kids were so bored with all the car journeys so going to keep it nice and fun.
What made you decide on Taupo? Where we decide to live will obviously have to cater for the whole family? Teenagers and myself don't want to be too rural but then I'm not a city girl, but we do want lots of activities to keep us busy...oh and a beach and a great community so we can make lots of new friends! A bit of everything will do nicely.....
Not asking for too much

Hi, I know that this is an old thread and I haven't been on this website since we moved here to Taupo 4 months ago, but I just want to put you straight on 1 thing
we DO have a beach - the lake is beautiful, and all around it is a beach that people enjoy all through the year. It's a beautiful place to live and although I miss my mates back home, I love it here and would hate to leave. You won't regret it if you come to Taupo
