How do we do it?

Hi all
New to this forum so please forgive any slip ups.
Have been a chef since the late 70's, god yes I really am that old!
I worked and travelled around Australia in the early 80's, absolutely loved it but instead of staying on, decided with my (then) other half to return to the UK.
Many years later and after a spell of working in the middle east for a short while, I am now thinking about returning to Oz with my (now) wife and child of 11 years.
But, being just over 45, I see that it looks like I am too old to apply for a Skilled Migration Visa. So, my question is - and has anyone else been in the same boat - how to you get a visa to work there? Do you just keep searching until you find an employer who will sponsor you?
If anyone can offer any advice I'd be most grateful.
Many thanks - and hope to be barbying with you all in the not too distant future.

Sorry guys really don't know - we're both 34. Try giving go matilda a call - they were our agents but gave us a lot of advice over the phone when we first started out. Don't have their phone number to hand but they are easy to find if you google them. Best wishes and good luck.

I'll do a google and see if I can find a link on the net - probably the easiest option.
Thanks for your help.

I believe that if you are over 45 you can apply for a SIR visa but that is a 4 yr temp visa. I understand that you can apply for perm residency after 2 yrs on this visa. http://www.sdi.qld.gov.au/dsdweb/v3/...ml.cfm?id=2814
I know Queensland will consider sponsorship of Chefs & Cooks

Thank you Claire, I haven't been on line for a few days so have only just seen this.
I'll send him an email, and see what he suggests.
I'm sure I'll be back soon with lots of questions, but I'll check out any "threads" based around Queensland also.
