Question Construction or training for Canada?

Hi,
A general question this.

I am in the last stages of my application to immigrate to Canada (received medical requests, probably only a maximum of twelve months now?!). My wife has last minute jitters about finding work in Canada. She has a job that she loves here in the UK, and worries that she will not find something as satisfying in Can.

I have been keeping an eye on the employment situation over there and have noticed that the Alberta region (specifically Calgary) seems to be going through a boom time at the moment.

I do have C&G in Carpentry and spent approx five years in construction about fifteen years ago.

My question is should I try and re-visit an old occupation (one that I am 'rusty' in) in the hopes of making the most of a boom time in Alberta, or would it be more advantageous to take some further training to build on my old skills in the hope that I may be more 'employable' by a Canadian employer?

If there is someone out there with specific knowledge of the construction industry in Canada I would be grateful for any input. What trades are in short supply, would it be worthwhile specialising in a particular area (framing, formwork, etc). What do you think?

Grateful for any feedback.
