City and Guilds Help

Hi Guys

Is there anyone out there who has the syllabus for the city and guilds 706-1 and 706-2. I have tried all of the avenues I can think of apart from the £34 each required from the City and Guilds Institute. I would be willing to make a donation to anyone who can help if you had to pay to get the info, but I cant see why I should be expected to get this for an Internationally recognized qualification anyhow. I think if you have passed you are competent in that field especially after 20 years.

Thanks in advance to all of you great chefs out there.

Hi there Nicky,

We had the same problem. Drop me an email via the website in my signature below and I will let you have the documentation we sent in its place - must have been okay as my hubby passed as Chef!

Hi Tigeresswhite,

Sorry to be cheeky, but would it at all be possible to send the info to me as well?

My OH is the chef and we're just trying to sort out the stuff for the TRA as a cook.

Do you also have a copy of the sylabus for C&G 224 Pt1 & 2.

Thanks
Chris.

Re: City and Guilds Help

I passed my TRA just over a month ago as a chef and did not have to provide any syllabus info for 706/1 or 2.
Who is asking for this info ?

chris08 Jul 25th 2007 6:28 am

Re: City and Guilds Help

Hi, it was all the instructions given to us from the agents, it asked for certificates and course sylabus's.

Is this not really required then? will just the certificates do?

(I meant 706 1&2 above not 224 1&2, Thats my certs)

petereb Jul 25th 2007 6:45 am

Re: City and Guilds Help

All I provided was the certificates.

Surely TRA would know what the syllabus was, they must get hundreds of chefs applying each month, I would have thought that they would not want to be bombarded with duplicate copies of the same information for the same course, maybe I'm wrong but as I said I didn't provide it and I got my TRA as a chef.
Might be worth speaking to your agent

Hi Peterb

I had to send the syllabus for both 7061/2 as did quite a few others. If you did not have to send it off, all well and good but many of us did have to.

No problem please PM me and I will send it to you. It is best to send all of this info as I failed the first time as they said not enough info. The TRA do want to see the syllabus or at least for the majority of us they have asked for it. Better to have too much information than not enough.:D

petereb Jul 25th 2007 9:27 am

Re: City and Guilds Help

All I'm saying is that surely TRA have the syllabus for the 706/1 & 2, how many times do they need a copy of the same document. Yes if your agent is saying send it then do what you can, but surely if I can pass without it then it is not a necessary document. The other information I provided was VERY detailed, perhaps that was enough

chris08 Jul 25th 2007 9:36 pm

Re: City and Guilds Help

I think its allways better to be safe than sorry, I know they get hundreds of these but they also get a lot more applications for different professions, I can't assume whoever does my wifes TRA will know what a C&G 706 is.
Its better to supply all the bits asked for than to get a refusal for not enough information supplied.

Tigeresswhite PM sent thanks for any help you can provide.

HI Guys

I'm glad there are so many chefs/ cooks wanting to go to Aus, looking at brisbane with the wife and kids.

I would really appreciate it if you could send me the City and Guilds info, please.

Can i ask you guys a question!

When doing the TRA, how have you presented the information from you jobs! as in have you put Dishes, Recipes, method statements, job specs (Don't have these) have you put things like cleaning in! did you put basically from the start of the day through to the end.

Example,
Start day Receive Goods
Start prep, followed recipes, used knife, board, pan, cooker, spoon, etc.

or did you break it down
List task
List Menus
List Recipes
List Utensils
List Equipment

What worked best for you!

Any advice you might have would be greatly received, and i'll think really nice things about you to St Macarius

Re: City and Guilds Help

I have been reading all your comments about city & guilds for chefs. My husband is a head chef with over 20 years experience but never completed his 706/2. He has never needed it in the UK/Ireland and has had no probs getting jobs but we have been advised that he needs this to pass his TRA. Has anyone passed the TRA as a chef or cook without 706/2? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: City and Guilds Help

Hi

Up until September last year you didn't need a qualification, just experience, but I'm afraid now you do. (Pathway D).

I'm no expert but I'd recommend getting some advice from an agent. (I've heard Allan Collette at gomatilda.com is very good)?

Good Luck!

Re: City and Guilds Help

Hi

My husband has 15 years experience as a chef and completed loads of modules on a special course run by his employer and was told it was the equivalent as SVQ2.

We applied for our TRA giving details of all his experience (which went on for about 20 A4 sheets) and provided proof of all the modules he'd completed but we failed!! We were gutted but having spoken to people at TRA we are hopeful that when the new pathway is introduced in September we should be successful based on modules completed and his experience.

We were told the only reason we failed was that we had no proof the modules completed were sufficient for SVQ2 (We didn't have a certificate certifying this).

Good luck

Christine

Hi Tigeress,

I know your thread on the 706/ 1 & 2 are well out of date and you're probably well settled into life in Aus  - but for us Newbies the questions you guys asked are such a valuable source of info.....so i'm hoing you can help?

I'm at the very beginning of wanting to move to Australia :( - i'm meeting a migration agent this week and may have to rely on my 706/1 & 2 certs for maximum points - trouble is i lost the certs years ago so i'll have City & Guilds do the search - but will i also need separate searches for the syllabus as well?

How did you get on when you put your application through?

Regards

Quinn

There is a restriction on sending private messages until you have got at least 3 posts. Its part of BE's anti-spam system. You now have two posts, once you have one more you have access to your private messages :)
