hi there ive been here for 7 weeks now and been looking round all the hair salons trying to take in how different things are here, can anyone tell me why most salons seem to sell professional products to the general public...i dont mean shampoos and conditioners ect i mean perms and neutralisers and perm rods and proffesional colours and peroxides
isnt this encouraging people to do their own hair

It just seems to be the culture here, i dont think there is a reason other than greed, and because most of these so called salons, (wholesaler with a nailed on salon) are actually salons with big retail bits they can get away with selling professional products like Goldwell, Matrix and the like.
Its not the best way of promoting professionalism, but it seems they dont mind, the company i work for has stopped dealing with most of these outlets for that reason.
hope you are enjoying your new life

Thanks bill and gail,im getting on just fantastic thanks
it is lovely out here, gary started work on monday so i thought id best get started myself, ive been ringing round hairdressers to get an idea of prices, which vary so very much
but all is not as it seems, ive been wondering how these salons make it pay when i see prices like $35 for a perm, but now i realise thats only for very short hair and the price seems to go up every few inches,i went in and asked a stylist how much would it be for a perm cut and blow dry on my own hair and she said $195 but on the price list it says $35
my hair is shoulder length and layuered and not excactly thick
just goes to show you doesnt it,what if id gone in with just $35 in my purse.
anyway im going to g mobile like i did in the uk,i understand you have to have a business number
does anyone now where i go to get one?
cheers tracey
