starting out on the immigration ladder NZ
#1

Hi .. I'm Matt
I have decided to hand the towel in here i the UK and give NZ a go .. I have just started out doing my home work .. I am looking into getting a visa as a skilled migrant worker .. I have always worked in one way shape or form in the construction industry .. The job I have been doing for the past 10 years is very specialised as an Oak frame erector and I'm sure that there is not much call for it in NZ .. but it's a bit like fancy steel erecting and my skills should easily adapt. For those interested .. this is what I am about.

I want to try it for a year or two before selling up here and committing myself totally in case things do not work out
What I have learned so far is that I'm going to need the services of an Immigration Adviser.. So are there any recommended people I should use and what kind of money should I be looking at to pay .. It's just me to go as I am doing this alone so i would be grateful for any sound advise.
Many thanks
Matt

Hi, and welcome to BE.
I know exactly what you do, because we're looking at an oak frame garage at some point in the not too distant future! No idea on if it's something that is done in NZ, but just wanted to say hi and welcome really.
Good luck with the move.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.
Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.
Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.
Please contact me if I can give you any further help.
Rosemary

Amazing job you do Matt, we did consider building a house of a similar ilk (company called Border Oak who I'm sure you've heard of). But we ended up buying a derelict Georgian farmhouse instead which we've been renovating for the past year and hopefully we'll get our oak frame fix with a 3 bay garage at some point next year!
Thanks for the photo, good luck with the move.

I'm learning .. I've sussed that it seems to be a catch 22 situation .. Employers want you to have a visa sorted and NZ immigration need you to have a job offer .. How do I get over that ?
Sound advise please.
Matt
