Hi there, your site has already been extremely useful, quickly answering questions as they pop into our heads at all hours of the day and night.
My L-1 Visa petition has just gone in for our relocation. Despite some confusion over the new online D160 form, we're just waiting for the petition number for me to complete the online forms.
Biggest concerns right now are:
1. health care costs - daughter (age 5) has a pre-existing medical condition, I have a meeting this week with HR to discuss how all this works financially but - the US really should think about some health care reform (!)
2. education - we heard that kids in USA start school later than in the UK. Whilst public schools in the area we're going to are supposed to be great, we're a bit worried about them
3. getting everything sorted out - already got a mammoth list surrounding renting out, finding a lease, notifying everyone, life insurance, bank accounts, bla bla bla
Hope to hook up with some existing brexpats in VA...
Warm regards
Jondem

Hi Jondem,
Welcome to the site and our little community. Congratulations on your exciting move to the US, I bet your head is swimming with all sorts of to-do lists and questions about living in the US.
Pop on over to the US forum and jump in and start chat with others who have already made the move. We've also got a great wiki that members contribute to which may help allay some of those butterflies.

I lived near McLean VA for a few years. Very nice area, but VERY expensive. DC is a nice city too. Just stay away from South east and south west DC. You will probably get shot.
