Default Moving on.....to Gibraltar

Hi,
My name is Charlie Ellington, 41, ex firefighter from Manchester and currently residing in Harpenden. Many interests and passtimes which I shall edit into my profile.
I am intending to move to Gibraltar very soon, kind of 'taking the plunge' and going for it. Many reasons, all good, and looking forward to the journey.
I would like to do some preparation and having joined, find the site to appear perfect for those requirements and many others.
Would VERY much appreciate any assistance and/or advice; I am very fortunate that I am travelling light and really need guidance on fiscal matters, banking etc and work opportunities (prepared to take just about anything initially, would LOVE to work in the wild dolphin field or other animal related field; or maybe the fishing industry.....I don't know, but for now the financial, work and accomodation (only need single room flat initially) areas are the priority as I say, assistance will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thankyou, Charlie

Hi Charlie, welcome aboard.
My partner's ex London Brigade and he moved to a Greek island when he got the boot (bad knees dontcha know). He found it much easier to live on his pension there than the UK and likes a bit of adventure too. I know he would tell you 'go for it!'.
As always, be careful of meeting foreign wimmin and taking up with them. You end up in the strangest places!

My only specific input is: isn't Gib a bit on the expensive side?

Thankyou very much, I have absorbed what you say.
Yes, I think Gib is exp in some ways (property seemingly) but actually where I am living now is on a par it would seem, certainly in respect of rental (£800ish for i bed flat / £300,000 for say buying a 2 bed semi/terrace). Gib is cheap as far as tax is concerned and my 'maintainance' costs are low.
Could you elaborate on the foriegn women subject a little. I am not prioritising finding a foriegn or British lady particularly high at all, I rather enjoy my own company actually, but am very keen to be educated in relation to foriegn cultures and in this instance, the potential 'pitfalls' shall we say, I should be aware of!
Thankyou so much for your reply and your work on this excellent site; please pass on my best to hubby and God bless you and your family.
Charlie

I am the foreign wimmin in question and the link is to where we live now. Neither of us were looking, but these things just happen sometimes.

Our (his) rent in Greece was about £100, to give you an idea of what I consider 'cheap'. I am a big advocate (through experience) of renting vs buying when you move, especially until you've been there long enough to learn the local drill. In many countries I've lived & stayed in, 'title' to a given piece of property is not always clear and I've seen many people 'buy' a house or piece of land that they then ultimately did not own.
Also, you sometimes decide you like the other side of town/island/continent and having bought may tie you down.
That's just my opinion/philosophy.

Liking your own company is the best first requirement I can think of for moving abroad.
Best to you and yours as well; I look forward to hearing about your adventures!
