Melbourne lifestyle
I have been offered a role in Melbourne and am looking to relocate. Can anyone help us with information on the basics such as what is a good areas to live in or more importantly what areas should we avoid. I will likely be working in the centre (Collins St) so would like somewhere not to far away. We have two children 8 and 3 so finding somewhere family friendly with good schools etc will be also be a priority.
We have previously lived in Australia 8 years ago, but in Brisbane. We have heard that the cost of living has really increased since then, and also that the Melbourne rental and real estate market is expensive and over prices. So would also be interested in hearing from someone who has recently moved from UK to Melbourne on how the differences in cost of living etc really translate.

It's my pleasant duty to welcome you to the forum and give you a point of contact should you need any help with the site. You can contact me here.
I think you've found the main Australia forum here, you might want to copy and paste your post here in the Oz forum, thats not to say that you have posted in the wrong place; quite the reverse, it helps us to find new members if they post first in the Welcome Inn.
A list of all the moderators and helpers with their relevant countries can be found here.
I've been in Western Victoria for 5 years now and prices have certainly risen from what seemed fairly reasonable to fairly high. However, in this oft written about topic, some people say that the UK isn't much different price wise.
Any problems, dont hesitate to PM me.
Bst of luck to you.
Alistair.

Hello and welcome to BE.
We have a very helpful crowd of people posting in the Australia forums...I'm sure they will help answer your questions about Melboure. I realise you already have experience of living in Australia but you may find the information in the BE Wiki useful.
Before you begin posting please take time to read through the Site Rules and any stickied threads or announcements that may be posted at the top of each forum's index page.
Alistair has already introduced himself to you. He is one of the concierges for the Australia forums. If you have problems finding your way around the many be forums please contact either
Kelli28 or Alistair Boyle.
For all other concerns or problems please contact a moderator or admin. Every BE forum has at least one moderator dedicated to that forum...Australia has 4...Cresta57, Monneypenny20,, Sonlymewalter and Alfresco.
I hope you enjoy your time with us.
