Hello Everybody, I've just joined and interested in getting a WP for Canada! I was there in 2006 for 18 months and at the time was only really interested in moving to OZ, but now that I'm struggling for work here I might just give it another go in BC with a possibility of securing a permanent visa - Is there anyone else here who like myself works in construction - cheers folks

Englishtart has given you the links to our Canada forums. Please post all questions about the actual immigration process in the Immigration Forum. Many of our regular members who frequent that forum have immigration experience and they will help you through the process. The general forum is for topics related to Canada and the Maple Leaf forum is for general chit chat. Before you begin to post please read through all the sticky threads or announcements that may be posted at the top of the forum's index page. Also take a look in the BE Wiki...you'll find loads of information in there. You could also take a look in the Working Abroad by Profession forum. I'm sorry there isn't a dedicated forum for construction but you could post in the main forum.
If you have any problems finding your way around the many BE forums AmyDavid and The Aviator are concierges for the Canada forums...they will act as your tour guides and guide you around the forums.
For any other problems or concerns please contact a moderator. The mods for the Canada forums are Iaink and Christmasoompa.
Please give me a shout if you need any help.

Hi SashaG just enquiring whether you got a work permit my Oh is in the construction industry, he is a steel fixer and shuttering joiner, work here in England is terrible at the moment and even though he can do different types of work here, he is also a 360 machine excavator, he is struggling to get work. Just wandering whether work in Canada has picked up yet ?? Or is it bad as it is here?? We too would love to move to Canada, we have friends in Vancouver. Any advice ???

Hi Blaise, I'm really not the type of guy to be asking for advice, but to my knowledge, construction in canada is always quite healthy. Even during the recession(still in it here) there was still plenty of work - in certain areas of course. As for work permits you have to have a job offer before you can apply for one, and that is when your future employer has applied for an LMO and been successful. I've been in talks with a guy(agency) in saskatchewan about a job, he knows a company that's looking for guys?? Seems to be taking a while though.. A lot of canadian companies would take on a foreigner but there not clued up about all the paper work involved. Has your hubby got his papers and been to college ? Canadians prefer that you've done a proper apprenticeship and so on ! I've been out of work here in scotland for over 2 years - I don't know where i'm going to end up, but once i leave here, i'm determined not to come back - its ****ed!! Send off some cv's to companies and agencies, its a pain in the arse, but you never know.. And stay clear of those immigration consultants advertising in the sun and the like.. All the best. Have a look at saskjobs.com for a look see

Hi sashaG thanks for the reply, Oh has got NVQ' s in his trade, would they count, he has 26 years experience in the construction industry. Work is terrible over here we have not known it this bad, he has been in and out of work for the past 2 years, struggling to get work. We would not come back here either if we got the chance to leave, i will check the link you gave me many thanks.
