Hi from London!
Afternoon All,
I've decided to join up as me and my husband (me 24, him 26) have decided we definitely don't envision our lives here in the UK and want to move abroad.
It's the best decision for us right now as we're pre-mortgage and children and want to set up our lives somewhere fresh!
We'd love to move to the USA (preferably Dallas) however looking at the requirements I'm not sure they'd have us (I'll post a thread in the USA section soon). If not then my husband worked in Canada for a year whilst in the British Army a few years back and he said he absolutely loved it there so we're considering Canada should it be an impossibility to move to the USA. I'm just a little nervous about the winter climate in Canada (that's really all that's putting me off atm) as I'm useless when it's cold.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to browsing the site, chatting and hopefully making progress towards our new life!
Thanks!
V & B.

Hi and welcome to BE. You've certainly come to the right place in order to pick the brains of our other members. They are all great at sharing their experiences. Also be sure to check out our wiki, as it's a great resource.
If you get stuck on anything on the flight please give me a shout

It is extremely difficult to move to the US...take a read through this...if you fit into one of the categories...you may have a chance of moving Stateside.
The weather depends on where in Canada or the US you live. I live in New Jersey and spend a lot of time in Toronto. The weather in that part of Canada is very similar to the NE coast of the US. The winters are really not that bad...most days the sun is shining and the sky is bright blue. It is cold but it's not that damp type of cold that gets right through to your bones. Toronto and Montreal have a whole city underground...linking shops, offices, restaurants, transport etc...therefore you spend most of your time indoors rather than outdoors. If you are into winter sports...you can turn it around so you really enjoy the winter here. The south west coast of Canada has a more temperate climate.
Take a look around the US and Canada forums. I am sure the regulars will try to answer any question you may have.
Once again welcome.

Re: Hi from London!
Thank you ladies!
Your replies are much appreciated however even after only posting this
thread a few hours ago I have come to terms with the fact that it is impossible for us to start our life out in America . We're genuinely gutted but as neither of us has immediate family in the US (only a great aunt) and neither of us have degrees (he's a qualified HGV mechanic and I'm an operations administrator) it is clear that we will never match any of the requirements for a green card.
So we're going to focus on our eligibility for Canada and try to forget our little Dallas dream.
Thanks for the welcome I'm looking to munching up all the useful information here!

Re: Hi from London!
I wouldn't go that far. I've lived the majority of my life just outside Toronto, have spent considerable time in the city, and not once have I ever been in that underground network of shops, etc.

I should have said...if you wish you can spend most of your time indoors instead of outdoors...your choice.
