Hi all, Just joined today. I'm retired, and I'm spending half the year in Tavira, Portugal. Looking forward to picking up lots of good advice from the forum.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Lucky you. Liked Tavira and the environs very much. Is there much of an expat community there these days?

Last in Tavira in 2001 but spent a lot of time there in 90 and was about to settle in Lisbon when was required unexpectly to move to France.

Have you just moved there to live half a year or has this been an ongoing thing?

Many happy times in Tavira anyhow.

Hi Mic, welcome to BE Lovely country you are in. We used to have lots of hols in Portugal, all over the place and sure that we passed through Tavira. Enjoy your retirement.

Hi Troubador, Not so many ex-Pats in the Eastern Algarve as in the West. Albufeira and environs is getting a bit like 'little Britain' in more ways than one these days, although I haven't actually seen Vicky Pollard there yet. (Seen some close relatives though). I like this part of the coast because its still relatively undeveloped - I say relatively - and Tavira itself is a conservation town with lots of safeguards on what can be done to it, such as no developments over 4 stories high, which keeps the tower blocks out. People who holiday here tend to be families or older couples, and the town is very popular with the French, which keeps the restaurants on their toes I think. My wife and I are here from May to November, then back to UK for Christmas/New Year/ Easter with family. It suits us very well.

Hi Baked Bean, Never visited Penang, though I did spend my teenage years in the 60's in Singapore at the RAF Grammar School at Changi. Happy days! My wife and I now spend from May to November here on the Algarve, then back to UK for Christmas/New Year/Easter with family. It suits us very well.
