Arrow Goodbye SA, hello UK?

Hi there, I live in Cape Town and have dual SA/UK passports (thanks to mum). I lived in UK in 2002-2003 and now, my wife of seven years and I are thinking of emigrating - if South Africa suddenly goes wonky.

She has only an SA passport. We wondered if she could get a UK passport at present, while we're living in SA.... or would we need to apply for a spousal visa for her, go to UK, live there for a few years and then she becomes eligible?

Any advice most welcome. We also have two scotties, so I am interested to know how easy it is to emigrate one's dogs to the UK!

Thanks all.

Hi there and welcome to BE.

Your wife will need a visa if she wishes to live in the UK. I suggest you take a look at our Moving Back To The UK Forum. There are many threads about UK visas for spouses...please also take a read through the stickied threads posted at the top of the forum's index page.

We also have a South Africa Forum that you may be interested in.

Please shout out if you require help with anything site related. Good luck.

Helloooooooo

I see we in the same position slightly, also going to the UK soon and reside in Cape Town.

Good luck with that one

Thanks all.
The fact that she is married to you does not qualify your wife for a UK passport.

She needs British ancestry (parents etc) to qualify.

If she does not qualify then you will need to apply for a spouse visa for her to return to the UK.
