Hi and welcome to BE

You could try asking in either the moving back to UK section - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=61 or the Australian section - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54

There are some temporary insurers around, but not sure if they would be suitable. I'm sure others will have come up with a solution though

Thanks for the reply. Not sure how it works as I don't think you can have 2 separate insurance policys on 1 car?

As old.sparkles suggested try posting in the Moving Back to the UK forum as I think I've seen this topic come up there before.

Agree with everyone else - try over there and see.

I will weigh in my experience though - when we went back to visit my husband's family over Christmas, he also couldn't be insured on his mum's car for the two weeks we were there. We looked into private/temporary insurance but it got really complicated. We ended up just renting a car, the cost wasn't ridiculous and it solved the insurance problem. You can find some pretty good deals online.

Thanks to your members advice, I have just re-insured my UK car with Aviva, for occasional visits back home. I tried multiple other insurers/brokers, and they all refused to insure 'non-residents'. Aviva phone rep. was friendly, helpful, asked their underwriters and got a perfectly satisfactory policy. Recommended.
