Another 457 Brit in Sydney - Hello
Hello All
Yeah I know another 457 visa Brit in Sydney! I though id say hello and find some social events to attend.
I am 32 year old and moved here on my own as part of an internal employee transfer. I am all about sport, tech and socialising. I live on the Lower North Shore (mistake 1, its dull) and work in the CBD in a very small office of 4 people (mistake 2) so my social network is not going to come from work.
Thanks for reading

Quite a lot of our members live in the Sydney area and they often have 'meet-ups'. BE meet-ups is a great way of meeting fellow Brits.
I recommend you pop over to the Australia Forums and take a look around.
Here is the link for the BE Wiki...there is lots of info about Australia in there. Please take a little time to read through the stickied threads or announcements that may be posted at the top of each forum's index page.
Kelli28, Sherlock Holmes and newjersey are the concierges for the Australia forums...so if you have any problems finding your way around our many forums please contact Kelli, Sherlock Holmes or newjersey
For all other concerns or problems please contact a moderator or admin. Every BE forum has at least one moderator dedicated to that forum...Australia has 4...Cresta57, Monneypenny20,, Sonlymewalter and Alfresco.
I hope you enjoy your time with us and please shout out if you require any help with anything.

Hi Alex
First of all welcome to BE from me too.
If you haven't alrady I would definitely advise the same as Jerseygirl to pop onto the Australia forum, where I am sure it won't take you long to find some buddies to hang out with, especially as they have meet ups.
Other than that I wish you all the very best in your new home - which I bet is much warmer and sunnier than the UK right now...

Hello
I am getting on OK in Sydney but could do with a good social network.
Well my UK home was a new build and good all year round, but sure the outside temp is much better.
Housing was a bit of a nightmare because demand is high and occupancy is high, the standard on the lower North, inner East or West i.e. with-in 30min of the CBD is very low unless you spend circa $3000 a month. That's accounted for the increase in wage vs the UK.
I did not enjoy the bear pit of viewing of a property in a 15min window with 30 other people also trying to view.
The a-holes that are real estate agents who lie, photo shop adverts to make them look bright and fresh but turned out to be rubbish and never returned a call or email. I hope the housing market collapses just to watch these worms struggle (hey ho rant over).
I do also think that bars are a little soulless in NSW, the Pokies WTF society killers! I guess an average income of $1600 per month per machine for a bar, well that's a lot of beer, food and pool tables a bar needs cover.
Hey ho
see you around

I think the social network is the hardest thing. It takes a while to get to know people doesn't it. Once you start clicking with someone though it certainly helps with the intergration.
So is your move a long term thing or do you think you will move on again soon?
