Was your local election as weird as ours?

Was your local election as weird as ours?
Remember this was for a seat on the state senate!
In the Republican corner we had a conservative republican criminal lawyer who was head of the GOP in NC and already the sitting state senator for Wilmington.
In the Democratic corner we had a gay single mother who was currently the county commisioner and a real estate lawyer.
The boring middle of the road republican was leading in the polls in conservative republican Wilmington with 2 weeks to go, then suddenly something rather strange happened. The Conservative Republican put a half page ad in the paper and sent out a 4 page flyer letting everyone know that the Democrat had a secret agenda, the following was the jist of ad and flyers
The fact she would be the first openly gay state senator for NC
The fact she (obviously) did not have the same values as North Carolinians (she is born and bred here)
That she had a gay agenda and not represent ordinary NCers only gays
She would try and get NC to be the first Gay marriage state
etc
In fact it only just stopped short at saying we would all be gay in the next 4 years!
This caused the local (republican) paper to publically switch its support from the republican to the Democrat. It caused his law firms server to shut off because of the amount of hate emails that where sent. A pink rose campaign launched against him - thousands of pink roses where sent to his law firm in protest and finally he lost the election by 2000 votes. He has publically stated that the ads where not the reason he lost the election.
This whole process restored my faith that the locals actually have some common sense when it comes to elections, the fact they all voted for bush negates it slightly but heh at least we have a gay single mother representing us in the state senate! Viva le revolution!

I don't know what's worse
a) Bush got re-eleted
b) Michigan voted the same way as California.

Adverts on the tv round here were for a lady called Barbara Mikulski who was standing for re-election in Maryland. She proudly stood on tv in a blue suit announcing she was a 'grocer's daughter '..Now where have I heard of a grocer's daughter in blue before ?? Hmmmmm.....

In Cicero, Illinois (home of The Mob, for those who don't know), we had a ghost elected. She was, apparently, the Democratic candidate and her name was on the ballot, but nobody knows who she is, nobody has seen her, she never did any campaigning, produced not a single flyer or poster, shook no hands and kissed no babies.
Only the Maltese family knows how it happened.

We kept getting adds for all the loons out in NY, which over shadowed all the loons in maine that were out there trying to get noticed...
but, thank god, those adds are over with for now

A democrat called B.E. Ware Jr. was running and only lost by like 30 votes or so.

If John Kerry or John Edwards had a gay daughter like Cheney, they'd be dancing round the campfire, singing it from the hilltops and trashing him no end with it. And they dared to keep restating that Kerry had mentioned it during the debate. Dems are not nasty enough. Shame its come to that.
