Default Are you a Frozen or Fresh?

Maybe we already did this one?
This is not just USA, certainly the same in UK. Over the years we have bought frozen turkeys, fresh turkeys & really fresh supa dupa expensive natural, free range, health food fed $48 turkey. Frankly, I think frozen, has been the winner more times then fresh. The most expensive fancy, hormone free, free range one was tough & stringy. My wife's said maybe the free range turkey got tough & stringy from all the running around it did.
As an addendum to my limited Turkey knowledge, I did work Saturdays and after school at a REAL UK butchers. I remember a couple of weeks before Xmas hand plucking & pulling (Fink that is what it was called) a ton of birds. I do mean Turkeys, few Capons & some Pheasants.

Fresh around here, but then FIL gets a large fresh turkey free from the boss, boss gives them out every thanks giving and x-mas, just name the size you want and you get one...I think it's because the boss either has a brother, or brother in law that runs a turkey farm and gets a discount rate for getting so many turkeys...

Really nice one this year

My dearly departed Mother In Law was a Bank Manager, she got a Turkey for Thanksgiving & Xmas. I always said the Bank, were to tight to give her bonus. Turkey give away, seems to be a biggy in USA.

That's pretty good going

It's seeing all the weird turkeys milling around by the side of the road that kind of creep me out *l*

Same here. Dad's best friend was a butcher. Think it might be fresh next year. Hubby told the 9 year old that you can go to a place where you pick your turkey and they kill and pluck it in front of you. Son really wants to go.:scared:

Cheeky

There's just loads of wild turkeys around in Maine, not a endangered species anymore whatever they say

I find the cheapest is usually the best ticket as well. Used to cook mine in a bag, but then I bought a roaster and since I don't usually make a huge turkey anymore, that works really well. Also, its a good idea to rub that thing down with loads of butter (and put some butter under the skin as well)

You know Bob was out hunting turkeys , driving around his vast estate in his Range Rover dressed in tweed and gumboots with bird dogs and a man servant that helped him to reload his 12 guages
