Re: Are you fat?
It so easy to gain weight here. A move away from "active work like manufacturing and agriculture (most people seem to be desk jockeys these days), a huge assortment of cheap/tasty/easily available food that's constantly pushed in your face, lack of exercise, lack of time to exercise, cities set up to prevent walking and other factors all seem to make it easy to gain and difficult to lose blubber.
I gained 35 pounds when I started working after college because all of those factors started to affect me. I recently lost the weight and am back down below 180 (I'm 5'10") It certainly wasn't easy. It was initially difficult to find the time and energy to do it as I have two kids and work fairly long hours.
Once I got started, it wasn't too bad. I had been an athelete (swimmer) through college so I was already accustomed to working out. Also, I'm fortunate to have a supporting wife and to have the ability to afford a home gym. It was still a challange. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to lose weight if I didn't have these benefits.

30 lbs seems to be the average amount most expats put on when they come over. I blame the weather Not surprising really though is it- we don't walk as much, there's sugar in everything, more fat in foods, processed carbs everywhere- its the land of convenience.

15 stone, 5-10, in the altogether (not a pretty sight). My cardiologist has said losing 10 lbs among other things will help lower my cholestoril(?) which is 107/38 at the moment. So we will see in 6 months time.
