Im just wondering, those of u who moved to the USA via their US spouse, were any of u contemplating moving there before or not? Have u always dreamt of leaving the UK?
Id never thought of leaving the UK, even though my job as a casino dealer left me ample opportunity to travel the world on cruise ships etc!

I've always liked the US for holidays, but I'd never have moved here if it wasn't for my wife.

Definitely not, even when I was on cruise ships and travelling ,I had the very strong opinion that I was going to go back to Scotland in the end.
My husbands worth it though, even when the BCIS make you jump through hoops and feel like you got married just to move to the states.

No, I had no interest in America before I met my wife. She lived in England for 8 years and I still had no interest in moving here. Now I am here I am here for/with her.
I have never lived in the same place for more than 3 years since I was 16 anyway so I really don't have roots, this to me is an extension of my moving around.

No, I don't think I would have had the nerve if it wasn't for my girlfriend. My ex was a Brit living in NYC but I guess I wasn't in love enough to contemplate emigrating at that point, although I had an absolute ball touring the city and being amazed by the wonderment of it all. It was only when I met "the one" that nothing else mattered. I've always had an acute fascination with the USA and the very first time I landed on American soil it just felt "right", like I was coming home. Everywhere else feels too small after being there. I feel like I could realize my dreams by living there whereas I'd always felt frustrated in England. It hasn't quite sunk in that I am actually going to live there!

Having always travelled with the RAF....knew that we had hit pay dirt here many moons ago, when hubby was hand selected to man a post in the midwest, which consisted of 25 RAF personnel all told.
Truly, we were afforded the 'scatch and sniff' test at it's very best. After a year, we knew that England held little for us anymore. Friends mocked us, relatives all but ignored us, as we turned our sights to a brighter star. This was just not 'proper'. Hubby had a great career along with a pension plan; not to mention predictablity, along with an institutional mentality.
We came here as a team, and so shall we remain. We paid our dues many years ago, it was not easy, we gave up a lot..but the rewards have been great.
Good luck to all. Remember though, the streets of America are not paved with gold, but dreams are. We dreamt, long and hard, and it came to fruition after applying those dreams to reality....and so can you!

USA was the last place on earth i wanted to go to, i had the blinkered stereotypical idea that all americans were egotistical and arrogant. Boy was i wrong.
Now I actually feel USA is more of a home to me than the UK.
Funny how you change. I hate visiting England now, it seems such a harsh place which makes me a little sad. It also makes me appreciate USA more.

Having said that, it seems less of a sin to be happy here than in England. And people are pleasanter - except when they get behind the wheel!

Nope, I'd have just kept coming for holidays if it wasnt for meeting my wife.
