i imagine theres only a small % of the country that has hd, then only a tiny % of them will care about watching the world cup unfortunately

I held out a bit of hope only cos here they are really advertising the world cup (and the fact its offered in HD by espn, espn2 and abc) like crazy, so figured maybe just maybe, but eh, as long as i get to see em, got the dvr ready to go when i am unable to watch it live, will not be around the computer at all in that case

Re: World Cup Football and HDTV
Well was flicking through our hd channels this evening and a mysterious new hd channel seems to be there. Its right after ESPN, but is not announced as to what it is and nothing is broadcast on it yet (all says To Be Announced). Now this has just appeared this evening, now i wonder (and pray and keeping my fingers crossed) that maybe tomorrow it will turn into ESPN2HD???

Guys, we're in luck! Looks like channel 725 (I think it is usually INHD2) is being used for ESPN2-HD. I'm watching Germany vs. Costa Rica right now and it's in glorious HD. Heaven ;-)

ESPN2 in Atlanta - yahoo.... Shame England were not in HF (High Form).
Now, I wish we could import the UK commentators. The USA commentators were a joke :-
1. What's a geezer
2. Para-gay it's not, para-g-why it IS !!
3. What's with all the stats. I'm surprised they didn't say
"In the openning world cup of '66', there were 4 million more blades of grass than there were this year"
OR
"more players wearing blue underwear, on average, on a friday, score more goals than players wearing black underwear on a tuesday"
WTF is that all about!!!

On screen graphics showing what the next ABC game is
"One-Nothing". Not "One-nil".
Steven GerrARD, not Steven GeRRard
I am assuming a "PK" is a penalty kick.
Useless commentator Bilboa or whatever his name was.
The commentator kept on about a "very short flight of one and a half or two hours". If anyone flies that long in the UK, they are no longer in the UK!!! And how many footie fans fly to domestic games?
Still, overall, a reasonable start, and like the players, the commentary team are likely to improve as they gain experience.
Nice to watch it in HD. Individual blades of grass visible on close ups of corner kicks etc. Quite stunning.

You can listen to live commentary on the World Cup matches from English commentators if you go to 'The Sun' online.

I'm listening to the Sweden vs Trinidad/Tobago game live right now (spouse just put on the same game on the XM satellite radio with US commentators...they're awful!) but there is a slight time delay on the 'Sun's' commentary so it could be a bit weird if you're watching the telly at the same time LOL!

Re: World Cup Football and HDTV
Anyone in Florida get the England game on ABC HD on DirecTV (Ch.86)? It wasn't available to me, so I phoned up and someone said some crap about getting a waiver or something because of local channels...I said I can get the regular channels just not ABC HD on Ch.86. I can get ESPN2 HD on Ch.72 but the England game was only on ABC so I had to watch it in regular 'low definition'.
Agree about the commentating being annoying, plus the lag is annoying (didn't relaise there was a lag at first, just thought the commentators were slow ).
You would've thought BBC America could have stepped up to the plate with half-time and post match programs, but yet again decorating programs are more important
